City Publishes New Video and Seeks Input on Recruitment Survey

City of Tigard Launches a Police Chief Recruitment

The City of Tigard is conducting a national recruitment for Tigard’s next law enforcement leader. As part of the recruitment, the City Manager’s Office is asking for community input regarding the characteristics, qualities, values, skills and abilities that will be important for Tigard’s next Police Chief. We invite citizens who would like to contribute to this effort to provide us with thoughts and feedback on what Tigard needs in its next police chief. This information will be used to develop a candidate profile, which will be used in our recruitment efforts. The information you provide will be anonymous. Go here: http://www.tigard-or.gov/city_hall/police_chief_recruitment.php

Tigard Voters Consider Measure to Increase Local Fuel Tax

Tigard Ballot Measure 34-256 asks voters if the city shall increase the local fuel tax by 5 cents per gallon for street system improvements, repair and maintenance. The city has a backlog of about 22 miles of streets that need paving. Current funding is enough to keep pace with normal pavement deterioration that occurs yearly, but not the paving backlog. To address this backlog, the Tigard City Council passed a Street Maintenance Fee (SMF) increase in March of 16 percent for Tigard businesses and 24 percent for residents; the increase goes into effect in January 2017. If this proposed gas tax increase is approved, the City Council will repeal the ordinance to increase to the Street Maintenance Fee scheduled for to take place on Jan. 1, 2017.
